Children & Young People’s Counsellor

Part Time position available – 28 hour post (4 days)

Knowsley & St Helens

£ 27,000 - £32,000 pro rata 3 years fixed term

RASASC is a leading provider of support for people who have experienced sexual violence and we are looking to recruit someone who is committed to working within this field and who wants to make a difference to the lives of those affected by trauma. We offer excellent terms and conditions with a 35 hour full time working week, 28 days leave per year plus bank holidays, a pension and EAP scheme as well as training and development opportunities.

We are looking for an experienced Counsellor to join our teams in St Helens and Knowsley to provide trauma informed therapy to children and adolescents who have experienced sexual violence. The post holder will work within a multi-disciplinary framework to undertake comprehensive assessments and offer therapeutic interventions to children, aged 5 to 17 years; and will provide support to caregivers as required.

Essential Skills:

  • Recognised professional qualification to Post Graduate Diploma level
  • Eligible for Accreditation with BACP or equivalent governing body
  • Experience of working therapeutically with trauma/survivors of sexual violence
  • Experience of working with children and adolescents
  • A clear understanding of trauma focused approaches to therapy
  • A clear understanding of the effects of sexual violence
  • Ability to assess for risk and formulate treatment plans
  • Ability to work autonomously and use professional judgment in relation to safeguarding and appropriate information sharing
  • Experience of providing trauma focused interventions
  • Experience of providing time limited counselling
  • Understanding of and ability to provide psychoeducation & coping techniques
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills
  • A good level of competency in IT skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft 365

Desirable Skills:

  • Qualification and/or experience in TF-CBT for Children
  • Additional qualification in EMDR/CBT/Trauma Focused Therapy/Solution Focused Therapy
